Odds are he went into boost again the next night and broke off some more land that was already weak. If the broken land was still in there it would close the gap pretty quick and it wouldn't take till the next evening. The reason I said again is because it was the next night and assumed some driving was done after straightening out the plug gap again. ![]() Personally if I have a head removed, I would replace all the pistons on at least that bank, so I wouldn't be pulling that bank again shortly and if one breaks on the other bank then I would deal with that when it happens. You could replace one piston and then a week after the rebuild, break land on one of the others. Now, replacing one piston, would fix it, but you have to remember that the conditions that existed to break land on one aslo existed for all the others. I would also add that it depends on the seriousness of the breakage and leave it at that. Using that as an example, I would say the chances are good that there is no wall damage. I can't say there will be no cylinder wall damage, however from my experience, I broke land on #4 and #6 and then again a couple hours later again on #6, then drove 500 miles home without boosting and there was no cylinder wall damage whatsoever on the engine I just rebuilt. No one else names fit, LOL anyway, yes, replacing one piston is a viable alternative. I believe you are talking to me, but it is John, not Jon. My car is running 14psi on stock 9B's & injectors. We have checked the injectors, fuel pump (255lph Holley), MSD DIS4 ignition, spark plug wires (Taylor), and ethey all check out OK. (first problem after a hard pull & the second while cruising) ![]() My tuner says he has never seen anything like this and he has a lot of experience tuning Evo's & WRX's & RX7's, among others. Same problem with the same spark plug gap completely closed on the same cylinder. So he regapped and everything was ok.until the next night. When my mechanic checked the car he found the spark plug gap on the misfiring cylinder was completely closed ( new plugs). The first time it happened, I had just made a hard 3rd & 4th gear pull & the car went dead after shifting into 5th and would not restart for about fifteen minutes, at which time the car was misfiring on at least one cylinder.
