Having spent years trying to discover the Speed Force's secrets, Thawne became so fascinated and obsessed with his lifelong idol and his powers to the point that he learned of his origins and how he gained his connection to the Speed Force. In his adulthood, Thawne became a scientist, eventually joining the Flash Museum as a professor and spending years unlocking the Speed Force's secrets. Thawne's life was turned upside down when his parents were killed in a car crash.įollowing the traumatic and horrifying incident, the orphaned Thawne grew resentful towards life and the world, turning him into a destructive and sadistic being however, during his isolation, Thawne learned of the Flash, the Central City superhero of the twenty-first century, and grew to idolize eventually to the point of obsession and desiring himself to be just like the hero. In his childhood, he was taught astro-navigation in grade school and grew up at a time when cows were extinct. A distinguished member within his own family, his first name "Eobard" is apparently even more distinguished. He discreetly observed Flash's early superhero activities, including the defeat and capture of Pied Piper, after which Thawne declared Barry wouldn't be able run away forever.Įobard Thawne was born on Monday, June 26, 2451, presumably in Central City, Ohio, into an affluent family of politicians, scientists, and captains of industry. Later, Thawne resurfaced in the new timeline, where his original actions remained intact. The Flash was successful, but ultimately created a new, revised timeline. In the alternate timeline, Thawne attempted to prevent Barry from resetting the timeline, but was seemingly shot dead by Batman to allow Flash to harness enough Speed Force energy to travel back in time again however, Thawne drew a residual amount of the Speed Force into his body moments before death and escaped. At some point, Thawne approached a younger Flash and manipulated him into saving Nora, resulting in the creation of an alternate timeline in the process. Thawne then returned to his own time and would continue his criminal activities, including fighting against a much more experienced Flash. Since then, the two speedsters battled each other for many years, but neither of them was strong or fast enough to defeat the other.Īfter learning the Flash's secret identity, Thawne traveled back in time to murder Barry Allen's mother, Nora, hoping that Barry would suffer such a tragedy so traumatic he would never become the Flash, while Henry Allen was subsequently framed and arrested for the crime. This included creating his own negative version of the Speed Force using negative energy and exercising his raw emotions, which he used to travel through time without the Flash being able to detect him. This, coupled coupled with his discovery that he was destined to become the Flash's greatest enemy, drove Thawne insane and prompted him to embrace his inescapable destiny, becoming the opposite of his former idol. In the twenty-fifth century, Thawne met the Flash for the first time, and learned various ways to become faster than anything however, when Thawne was about to make his grand entrance and be hailed as a hero, the Flash beat him to it and stole his greatest moment from him, therefore humiliating him. A massive fan who had been obsessed with the twenty-first century's Flash all his life, Thawne recreated the accident that was behind the Flash's powers, becoming a speedster himself. Professor Eobard Thawne, also known as the Reverse-Flash, is a metahuman speedster from the twenty-fifth century, a time criminal, and the archnemesis of the Flash. the more I had to take from you." ―Eobard Thawne to Barry Allen The more people you saved, the more you were loved. So I became the reverse of everything that you were. My fate was to become your greatest enemy. TheSplashPrince "This ability to travel through time revealed the truth.
